Hospice in the News!
Congratulations Barb!
In conjunction with Alumni Weekend festivities, June 6 – 7, The University of Iowa College of Nursing honored four individuals who have made significant contributions to the profession of nursing: alumni Barbara Zoeller and Loah Stallard; College of Nursing professor emerita Martha Craft-Rosenberg; and Governor Chet Culver.
Barbara Zoeller, BSN 71, MA 76, RN, was honored with the Distinguished Achievement in Nursing Award, which celebrates those who have significantly contributed to the advancement of the academic mission in the nursing profession.
In 1987, Zoeller was hired as the only employee of a small voluntary hospice agency. Since that time, she has led Hospice of Dubuque to its current status as a full-service, Medicare/Medicaid-certified agency. The agency has expanded to serve Illinois and Wisconsin, and employs 60 staff members as well as 120 professional and community volunteers.

Twenty-five years ago, a group of committed volunteers began Hospice of Dubuque, the community's not-for-profit hospice. Although the organization now has more than 60 employees, Hospice of Dubuque's volunteers continue to be vital in fulfilling the mission of providing compassionate care for the terminally ill and their loved ones. Hospice of Dubuque would like to take this opportunity to honor and thank our volunteers whom we consider our special treasures.
Webster defines treasure as something highly valued. Our volunteers are indeed valuable. They bring compassion to people in the final weeks and months of life, provide respite to families and caregivers, and support in fundraising and administrative duties. While making a difference in the lives of others, Hospice of Dubuque volunteers find their own lives changed. We treasure the contributions they make every day.
